The Importance of Bras

When we think about putting together the perfect outfit, we often focus on colours, textures, and accessories. But what about the one piece that forms the very foundation of your look? The bra!

If you choose to wear one, a good bra can shape your whole outfit, and be comfortable, practical and stylish. The wrong one can be uncomfortable, cause pain and ruin a great look!

Let’s have a look at why bras are crucial in our wardrobe!

Posture - the right bra can help take the weight of a heavier bust, helping your spine, neck and shoulders!

Comfort - you cannot be comfortable in your outfit if your bra isn’t comfortable, so start at the foundations of your outfit.

Clothing - often your clothing can look and fit so much better with the right size and style bra.

Versatility - with a range of bras to choose from, you can have a good chance to find something to cover your straps!

Body Shape - getting the right size bra is so important as lifting your boobs into the right place can really define your shape and help your clothes fit how they should!

It’s also important to remember the number of aspects of the ‘right’ bra, it is more than just fit! Some popular shapes of bras include full cup, balconette and plunge. But there is also the wired vs non-wired preference, strap options, apex and side supports! It can all sound a bit daunting!

A quick tip guide:

  • Band size: Should fit snugly around your ribcage without digging in or riding up.

  • Cup size: Should fully contain your breast tissue without gaping or spillage, breast tissue also goes back on our sides more than some people realise.

  • Straps: Should provide support without digging into your shoulders yet not be too loose to lift you up.

Some quick benefits to some of these styles for you to consider!

1. Full Cup Bra – Maximum Coverage and Support

Good for under tees and business attire

2. Balconette Bra – Lift and Shape

Good for lifting and for square/milkmaid necklines

3. Plunge Bra – The Deep V Effect

Good for low-cut necklines and enhancing cleavage

4. Apex Bra – Natural Shape and Lightweight Comfort

Good for a relaxed shape with more support than a plunge

5. Side Support Bra – Added Structure for a Forward Shape

Good for forward-shaping

5. Multiway Bra – Versatility

Good for different straps and shapes

But you have to consider what works best for you! I’m more than comfortable to admit that I don’t like non-wired bras, personally I want more support than that, I have a high apex and love having side support, so that is what I usually go for! I’m also very open to admit I’m still on the hunt for the best strapless one, so I’ll keep you updated on that one!
