Building Your Personal Style

To me, this is one of the most important parts of personal style, alongside self-confidence!

There is a few common misconceptions within the fashion industry that is fed into the general public. There is two main ones that really frustrate me when I hear them;

  • There are colours you should completely avoid

Wrong! There are so many shades, hues and textures, patterns that often being told you can’t wear a certain colour can limit so many choices. Changing your hair colour, going on holiday and getting a tan, your makeup can really change what ‘suits’ you!

Clothes should make you feel confident and comfortable, you should look in a mirror, at your outfit and smile, you should be feeling great! Whatever you’re wanting your outfit to convey, you should be really vibing with that when your see yourself.

Building personal style is just that, personal. It doesn’t matter what other people are wearing - or what they think! It is all about finding who you are, who you want to be, what is exciting, interesting or practical for you. Personal style is a true representation of self-expression.

The things you should look for when picking your outfits, from a shop or from your pre-existing wardrobe, is what attracts you to certain pieces, what do you love, what do you hate? This could be a shape, colour, texture - anything! The more you can decipher your preferences, the easier fashion becomes.

You also have to remember that your own personal styling is evolutionary, it is unlikely that your preferences will remain completely the same, and that is okay!
